Abstract
Introduction: Dental caries is a global health issue, affecting 2.5 billion people. Initial lesions often go unnoticed, leading to irreversible damage of
dental substance and requiring invasive interventions. Modern dentistry focuses on prevention, prioritizing early detection and non-invasive therapies
that enable remineralization.
Main Part: The prevalence of caries is high and constantly increasing due to poor oral hygiene, unhealthy dietary habits, and lack of preventive
treatments. Traditional diagnostic methods like visual inspection and dental probing have limitations, especially in detecting initial lesions. Advanced
diagnostic technologies like laser fluorescence, transillumination and QLF enable precise recognition of caries in the initial stages of
demineralization, before structural damage occurs. These methods enable early detection of demineralization, enabling the application of noninvasive therapies, such as fluoride varnish, nanohydroxyapatite, and CPP-ACP, which promote enamel remineralization. The advancement of AI
further improves caries diagnostics by automating lesion detection and predicting progression risk.
Conclusion: Integrating modern diagnostic technologies with non-invasive therapies is key to advancing dental practice. Future developments, such as
AI and remote oral health monitoring, will enable precise diagnoses, personalized treatments, and preventive strategies. Technologies like QLF and
DIAGNOdent have already shown promising results in early detection and reducing the need for invasive restorations.
